Goldfinger (EON Productions, 1964) is the standard against all James Bond movies are measured [1].

Is it the best James Bond movie ever made?

That’s a question beyond the scope of this website. Even if it was a matter that could be reduced to assessment of facts, the basis of debates that have come this far would persist. Which facts should be considered? How should each bit and piece be weighted? Who gets to say so?

Fundamentally, it’s a question of opinion. And that tough nut has become even tougher to crack since the advent of online debate [2-3]. Where’s the fun in cutting back on that [4]?

Rather than pursue the answer, then, cue Goldfinger was launched to identify and test any number of logical mechanisms for ranking James Bond movies against Goldfinger.

More than simply providing a point-of-departure, that franchise-creating entry established a solid opening criteria by which every 007 motion picture (before and after) could be objectively compared [5]. Furthermore, this means not just compared to Goldfinger, but one another — not just circa 1960s spy genre, but to present day.

Don’t look so much for a bottom line or a Final Answer? here. Instead, anticipate mostly interim findings.

False starts, and tried-on-and-rejected paths will also remain here for both archive value and to serve as responses to curiosities. Did you consider such-and-so? When? Why is it not being further examined?

Expect that updates when I have something of value to add. Entries may come here and there, or in sequences. Don’t be surprised by long periods that will pass without anything new at all: In my experience, that’s preferable to filler.
